5th Dimension: A Concrete Perspective To Try To Direct The Understanding Of What Is Or Could Be.
Peeling Back the Layers: The Search for Hidden Dimensions Within and Without.
In today's exploration of physics, we are delving into dimensions beyond the familiar three spatial and one-time dimensions to gain a deeper understanding. String Theory, a prominent concept that unifies quantum particles with cosmic gravity, relies on additional dimensions for stability.
This complex mathematical framework not only provides insights into the mysterious 5th dimension but also investigates specific geometric shapes representing the wrapping of hidden dimensions. As we embark on the journey into the elusive 5th dimension within reality, both mathematical concepts in physics and subjective studies in mysticism offer glimpses of a reality beyond our usual awareness.
Understanding these extra dimensions becomes challenging when relying solely on theoretical or theological principles. Yet, intuitive glimpses during meditative inquiry, focusing on unravelling the constructs of self and the world, provide an alternative path to sense deeper connections.
String Theory proposes the existence of six extra spatial dimensions at each point in space-time, tightly curled up at subatomic scales. Calabi-Yau manifolds, intricate mathematical objects, characterize the configuration of these postulated dimensions. Although too small for current instruments, they play a crucial role in predicting experimental results.
Calabi-Yau shapes, despite their incredibly small and invisible nature, serve as the foundation for equations describing a 10 or 11-dimensional reality. These equations predict experimental results and suggest that enfolded dimensions subtly impact observable physics. However, as we contemplate these intellectually elusive planes of theoretical physics, there is a risk of losing oneself in abstractions.
It is wise to balance lofty speculations by returning to the solid ground of ancient wisdom that gives us greater consciousness to live in the present. Transitioning to the Avadhuta Gita, an ancient Indian text, we encounter a masterful celebration of the "neti, neti" or "not this, not this." Neti Neti is an ancient Indian meditative technique aimed at self-inquiry and deconstructing one's usual sense of ego identity. By repeatedly applying the phrase "not this" to each layer of self-concept, it systematically negates limiting definitions. For example, one may contemplate
"I am not this body," "I am not these emotions," or "I am not these thoughts."
After stripping away superficial constructs, what remains is an unveiling of one's true nature - a pure, subjectively experienced inner awareness or consciousness that witnesses but remains untouched by passing phenomena. Neti Neti allows diving within, shifting focus from object to subject - from transient forms that come and go to the formless yet ever-present essence of one's underlying being. It is a powerful practice for self-realisation.
“I am not the mind, nor any other organ, nor the fivefold sheath of the body. I am not the senses of smell and taste, nor am I the ether, the earth, the fire, the air. I am the supreme bliss and pure consciousness, I am Shiva, I am all auspiciousness, I am Shiva. I am not the breath, nor the five vital airs, nor the seven components of the body, nor the five sheaths forming the body, nor am I the organ of speech, nor the hands, nor the feet, nor the anus, nor the organ of generation. I am the supreme bliss and pure consciousness, I am Shiva, I am all auspiciousness, I am Shiva. I have no hatred or dislike, nor affiliation or liking, nor greed, nor delusion, nor pride or haughtiness, nor feelings of envy or jealousy. I have no duty, nor any money, nor any desire, nor even liberation. I am the supreme bliss and pure consciousness, I am Shiva, I am all auspiciousness, I am Shiva.”
Avadhuta Gita, Chapter 1, Verses 5-7
While modern physics may unveil hidden dimensions of the objective world, self-inquiry unravels the subjective lens through which we view reality. By shedding conceptual identities, we make direct contact with the open, wakeful awareness that serves as the canvas upon which the multidimensional marvel of life is painted.
Through repetitive negation of transient identities during inward focus, "neti, neti" acts as an ego-peeler, stripping away superficial concepts about self and reality. What remains is pure subjectivity—an eternal, unseen awareness silently perceiving all changing forms and experiences.
Venturing beyond speculative inference, self-similarity found in fractals indicates hidden dimensions folded below observable scales. Fractals reveal recurring patterns at every magnification, suggesting additional compacted dimensionality infinitely regressing below observable thresholds.
As attention rests on its essence, a radical inversion occurs. Awareness awakens to itself as the ultimate unseen reality, influencing the totality by containing all observable dimensions in potential.
In the search for the ineffable 5th dimension, we discover that consciousness itself is the hidden player—an eternal awareness untouched by the flux of arising phenomena. Reality unveils its dreamlike nature as formations come and go within the uncreated light of Being.
By turning attention beyond intermittent thoughts and perceptions, the subjective experience becomes saturated by the unseen observer. Insight dawns that what truly exists is empty awareness devoid of definable qualities—registering all manifestations as consciousness shines alone.
Peeling away layers of ego reveals our true nature as the eternal unseen Atman witness. Atman, in this context, refers to the eternal, unchanging essence of an individual beyond the transient layers of identity.
Connecting this exploration with the invisible Brahman principle mentioned earlier, Brahman is the universal, infinite, and formless reality, representing the ultimate source and essence of everything. It permeates all existence, and the quest for the 5th dimension involves seeking this invisible Brahman principle that underlies and unifies the diverse manifestations of reality.
Instead of getting lost in concepts that may be too challenging to grasp immediately, let us return to what should be the starting point for all: annihilating the ego, and starting from scratch. This process involves shedding the layers of ego identity, akin to peeling an onion. By reducing the ego to its essential core, we can move toward the infinite and beyond.
In the pursuit of understanding these profound dimensions, we must peel our ego like an onion. From the stripped-down onion, we can journey toward the infinite and beyond. We are the invisible, immutable essence that we are seeking.
