Dawn of Pansexuality: How Gen Z is Redefining Love. When the Pot is Broken, Infinite Space Emerges.
The Avadhuta Gita uses inspiring language to expose the illusory nature of dividing lines enforcing “purity” around relationships.
“When the pot is broken, the space within it is absorbed in the infinite space and becomes undifferentiated.”
This pivotal passage from the Indian ancient scripture Avadhuta Gita illuminates Generation Z’s breaking of limits around love and identity. As youth courageously explore pansexuality, ancient Indian wisdom helps unpack the deeper significance of this modern revolution.
The Avadhuta Gita uses the metaphor of a shattered clay pot to symbolize spiritual liberation. When finite form disintegrates, the enclosed inner space merges back into a limitless expanse. The boundaries that divide internal from external dissolve.
Love, that eternally mystifying force which has launched a thousand ships, is being radically reenvisioned by Generation Z. Transcending binary notions of gender and sexuality, this generation embraces the full spectrum of human connection.
Recent studies reveal these monumental shifts in perception. A 2022 YouGov poll found that 12% of British youth ages 18–24 identify as pansexual, attracted to people regardless of gender or biological sex, with another 10% identifying as bisexual. Taken together, a full 22% refuse to limit partner choice based on masculinity or femininity alone. Rather, they seek those special souls who spark that inner fire — those who intrigue their intellect, delight their funny bone, and inspire awe through talents or perspectives.
Similar changes emerge across Europe. In Italy, 14% of Generation Z report being pansexual, with another 9% bisexual. Nearly one-quarter of Italian youth recognize rigid labels fail to capture the complexity of desire. Instead, they believe attraction stems from personality, insight, shared dreams and emotional intimacy.
A 2023 GLAAD study confirms that 18% of Americans ages 18–34 now identify as LGBTQ. Of those, 9% claimed pansexuality, 7% bisexuality and 4% as transgender or gender nonconforming. Generation Z boldly acknowledges inner radiance matters more than appearances when finding partnerships.
Generation Z also bucks convention regarding relationships. Rather than rushing to cohabitate, many postponed serious commitments to focus on self-knowledge and careers. Still, most yearn for enduring bonds with partners cherishing them as their authentic selves.
Likewise, pansexuality radically collapses societal constructs dividing whom and how one can love. Gender roles, sexual orientations and other labels no longer wholly define intimacy’s possible shapes. As artificial confines break open, attraction flows freely through the unveiled interconnectedness of being. By talking about pansexuality, Generation Z is not merely discussing sexual preferences, but rather the deeper aspects of love and connection. They are expressing their feelings, affection, sensations, and human warmth that transcend physical and biological differences. They are celebrating the diversity and richness of human experience that goes beyond the conventional and narrow definitions of sexuality.
The text’s central figure, the avadhuta, epitomizes this uninhibited state. Having let limited self-conceptions fall away, he declares “the whole world is my bride.” For him, no identities or barriers persist to divide himself and others. All contact reveals the singular unity masking as multiplicity.
Thus the dawn of pansexuality lifts ancient wisdom into modern light - no essential separation exists but the distinctions the mind superimposes. Freed from artificial boundaries, lovers dance together as unique expressions of the shared ground of consciousness.
The Avadhuta Gita uses inspiring language to expose the illusory nature of dividing lines enforcing “purity” around relationships. “Whomever I embrace, I see only myself,” the avadhuta boldly proclaims. By transcending falsifying filters, he experiences even intimate joining as consciousness meets itself across an apparent divide.
No more pot contains infinite space - inner and outer interpenetrate. Likewise, pansexuality helps channel ancient truth: No division but that which fearful thought superimposes on the singular beingness that flows through all. In Gita’s words: “How can I describe the behaviour of my mind? Free and uncontrolled from the beginning, it has never been bound by rules.” Unbounded like broken clay, new generations unveil love’s vaster landscape where fear once gripped. Youth liberated from constraints around attraction further the Gita’s call: “I have shaken off all limitations and definitions of myself... This is how people like me live.” Through pioneering pansexuality, Gen Z makes way for all to discard roles that once obscured our shared essence.
Then neither mud nor gold challenges the heart’s sight. Nor divide servant, king or Brief in their night. Love reigns when imaginary difference takes flight.
“In me, the single essence of consciousness alone exists. If you are not blinded by fears and attachments, this you will doubtless know.”
Beyond fear, love’s vaster landscape emerges.
