Immortal Consciousness in Dialogue: Sri Aurobindo and Baby in the Amniotic Cosmos.
Seeking Truth in the Cosmic Womb.
Savitri by Sri Aurobindo is an extraordinarily lyrical, visionary and imaginative poem, although it records experiences lived by the well-known guru, during his life. I used to read it while listening to the sound of amniotic fluid, the fluid that surrounds the fetus during the nine months of pregnancy. This sound, similar to that of the sea, evokes the idea of creation and birth and makes the reading experience even more evocative and immersive. So immersive that it gave me the idea to imagine a small and particular dialogue between a child immersed in the amniotic fluid of the cosmos and Sri Aurobindo.
Baby: Hey, who are you? Why are you here with me?
Sri Aurobindo: I am Sri Aurobindo, an Indian philosopher and poet. I am here to tell you about my work, Savitri.
Baby: Savitri? What is it?
Sri Aurobindo: Savitri is an epic poem about a woman’s struggle to free her companion from death. It is a story of love, faith and hope.
Baby: Nice, it sounds interesting. But what does this have to do with me, here in the amniotic fluid?
Sri Aurobindo: Well, the amniotic fluid represents the cosmos, where everything is interconnected and everything is part of a greater unity. Like the baby still immersed in the amniotic fluid, the human being is also immersed in the universe, and his life is a journey towards understanding himself and his place in the cosmos. Savitri represents this journey, where the human being tries to free himself from his fears and limitations to reach his fullness and purpose in life.
Baby: I understand. So Savitri is a story of growth and self-discovery.
Sri Aurobindo: Exactly. And like you, who are still immersed in the amniotic fluid, Savitri also represents the beginning of life, with all its opportunities and challenges. But in the end, just as you will emerge from the amniotic fluid to begin your journey in life, so too does Savitri achieve her freedom and understanding, and becomes an example of how every human being can achieve their fullness and realization.
Baby: How can I understand all this, even though I’m not yet born?
Sri Aurobindo: You are not just a child immersed in amniotic fluid, you are much more. You are an immortal soul, who has lived many lives before this one and will continue to live many more lives after it. Your soul is eternal and immutable and can understand concepts that go beyond limited human understanding.
Baby: But why does this life seem so new and unfamiliar to me, if I have already lived so many other lives before?
Sri Aurobindo: As Savitri says, “Every birth is a new adventure, every life is a mystery, a journey into the unknown.” Whenever we are born, we are like new sponges, ready to absorb everything around us and learn from our experiences. But do not forget that your soul is always the same, and it has already accumulated great wisdom and knowledge in previous lives. So even if this life seems new to you, in reality, you already have a wealth of knowledge that you can use to face it in the best way.
Baby: I understand. So every time we are born, we are like new sponges, but at the same time, we carry with us all the wisdom and knowledge of past lives.
Sri Aurobindo: Exactly. This is why each birth is a unique opportunity to grow and learn and to become more and more aware of ourselves and our place in the cosmos. Have a good life, great little friend!
Baby: Have a good life you too, Great Sage!
